Quinn the hipster

A few weeks ago, Quinn and I went to the library, and I borrowed Elephant by The White Stripes. On the way home, I popped the CD in the player, and gave Quinn the case to look at. (The White Stripes are spare, punkish songs with just drums and one guitar) The first song is this really simple, quiet-loud-quiet-loud thing that I listened to twice, and we got halfway through the second song, and by that time, we were home. Quinn had already fallen in love: She ran inside and told Amy "I listen the White Stlipes!"

A few days later, we were all driving somewhere, and I had the disc in the car to take back to the library, and Quinn saw it and said "I wanna hear the White Stlipes!" so we had to put it in. After the song ended, Quinn said "I wanna lissen it again!"

So this past weekend, while Amy went to the movies, Quinn and I went to the used CD store over in Fox Lake, and I was telling her "Maybe we'll find the White Stripes." As soon as we walked in, Quinn asked loudly "Daddy, where's the White Stlipes?", and I said "I don't know, we'll have to look." The hipster girl behind the counter said "Can I help you find something?" I said "You'll have to ask her," pointing at Quinn. So she leaned over and said "What are you trying to find?" and Quinn crowed "THE WHITE STLIPES!" Sure enough, they had a copy of Elephant right there at the front, and she handed it to me. I showed Quinn the cover, and asked "Quinn, who's this?" "THE WHITE STLIPES!" she shouted and reached for the CD.

Unfortunately, it was a new copy, and I didn't feel like paying $13.99 for it, and there were no used copies. I told Quinn, "I'm sorry sweetie, we can't take this one home," which is as close to an explanation as I could get.

Someday, Quinn and I will crank up The White Stripes at home. Probably not a day when Mama's around.

Hhmmmm, maybe Grandma should go shopping on Amazon.com, as October 18 is fast approaching, although "wailing steel guitars" is not part of my vocabulary!

You know you burned a copy.

Nope, I'll buy it at some point, though.

Just go to Real.com, download their software, then buy/download the whole album for $4.99. Yeah, you don't get the cover and all that, but who can beat that price? I've been on a buying spree myself. So far, my 4 y.ol. son likes Coldplay and Foo Fighters.

There is one right now at half.com for $7.99.
