Today

Quinn and I spent the morning outside with the previous occupant of our house. She took me around the house and showed me what each piece of landscaping was, how to care for it, and she tried to be polite about how I'd let most of it grow wild in the past nine months. Heh.

Quinn followed us along happily until she saw a fire hydrant at the corner that she wanted to go investigate. She kept trying to sneak down the hill to get to it, but unfortunately for her she was unable to do so without narrating her thought process. "I go see the FIRE HYDANT! It gots WATER init! The FIRE HYDANT is on the GLASS next to the red OCK-TA-GON! S-T-O-P spells STOP!" Then I'd call her back and she'd follow us obediently until it caught her eye again.

While we ate lunch afterwards, Quinn told me how many macaroni noodles were on her fork as she ate. For each bite. In Spanish, then in English. It took us several years to eat lunch.

After lunch, I read her Richard Scarry's Best Mother Goose Ever, a book of nursery rhymes that is questionable at times.

The cat sat asleep by the side of the fire,
The mistress snored loud as a pig;
Jack took up his fiddle by Jenny's desire,
And struck up a bit of a jig.

Finally, it was nap time for Lesters big and small, so we headed upstairs to bed. Quinn went down happily enough, but I was giddy and kept popping into her room.

"Tom, Tom, the piper's son!" I'd whisper

"Stolea pig and away he run!" she'd giggle.

"The pig was.."

"EAT!"

"And Tom was..."

"BEAT!"

"And Tom went.."

"CLYING DOWN THE STREET!"

Then I'd try to lie down, but I'd get up and return to her room.

"The three little kittens, they lost their mittens..."

"AND THEY BEGAN TO CLY!"

And we'd giggle, and I'd go back to my room, but then I'd think of another one.

I love playing with the Mook. She's so fun.

Oh Amy, we have that book! The rhymes crack me up! I'll be reading it and Rebecca is just sitting there doing whatever and Ed will be sitting across the room practically dying. I like to play it up, ya know, emphasizing the special words so Ed can exercise his inner pre-teen. Rebecca thinks we're crazy!
