familiarity

I'd like you to know that Quinn is regularly calling me "Amy" now.

"Where's Amy?" Dennis asked her today.

She pointed at me.

"May-mie...ay-meeeeee...ay-meeeee" she'll jabber as she tries to climb on my head. I haven't heard a "mama" out of her in I don't know how long.

"Go get Firefighter Cheryl!" Dennis told her. She went to her pile o' toys and unearthed the Little People figure named Firefighter Cheryl who came with her fire engine and handed her to Dennis.

Later, she pointed to the box of goldfish crackers I was holding, so I handed her one.

"Say thank you," I reminded her.

"Aaaann ooooo" she said.

Just before she went to bed I asked her, "Where are Quinn's toes?" She immediately grabbed them. This isn't something I've been practicing with her.

It's like I can actually see her brain growing right before my very eyes. It's freaky at times.

Yay Quinn! She is not defining you by your gender-role, but rather by your personhood. What a smart little feminist bunny you have!In all seriousness, I called my parents by their first names until I was in school (when my mother made me call her Mommy so that people would know I was her child). I'm sure it started because my parents called each other by their first names (i.e. "Go give this to Amy" rather than "Go give this to Mama"). I remember thinking that "Mommy" was what everybody called their moms; to me her name was special and meant just her. I call her "Mom" now, though, as an adult...but sometimes when I am feeling all luvie-wuvie I will still call her by her first name. The flip side of this is one of my college friends--she didn't know her mother's first name until she was six!!!

It's freaky in a good way, though, isn't it? :) The Little Clown still surprises us sometimes like that. As for Clara Belle, we're just happy when we can get her to laugh.I'm sorry to read that your back is still causing you discomfort. Let me know how I can help. (Could I help with your Christmas shopping at all? I'm going to a couple of local stores later this week...)Quinn is getting so big! Wow.

I am glad that she is still enjoying her firefighter Cheryl. Keegan totally digs the Little People, too.She hasn't decided to talk, though. Instead, she points, grunts, yells, etc. And there is the quacking like a duck. I would love for her to call me Mama. Or Rikki. Or even Shitface.Just something.

My daughter Audrey points to people's noses and makes a noise that sounds just like nose (but not saying nose yet). It is so cute to think of how only 11 months ago she was just being born. Isn't amazing.

My daughter used to call me "Mommy-chelle." Kinda cute, but it was surprising when she first came out with it.
