Don't be afraid to read closely

Well, The News Blog is the most powerfully emotional coverage of Katrina that I've seen yet. Especially this entry.

Aside from donating to relief organizations, what can we do? It is unfathomable to me that there isn't anything we can do.

There are lots of things people can do. Some of us are volunteering time, money and housing. Frankly, prayer is always welcome and costs nothing.

I have been at the Salvation Army helping prepare food for evacuees, my son has been to Reunion Arena to pass out candy to children, my oldest daughter has bought and taken food items and certain staples such as toilet paper to one of drop off points, my youngest daughter is trying to foster an animal and we have offered a room in our home for someone who needs a bed for awhile.

We have been too busy to place blame, we're just trying to make the lives of those affected better.

Please consider opening your home or fostering a pet if you think sending a donation isn't enough.
