Year in Review
I'm supposed to be doing lesson plans, but instead I'm swiping this from Athena.
A Year In Review: 2004
1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
I was a working mother.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't do resolutions, and I won't do them. If I'm lucky enough to change something, it happens randomly...not just on January 1.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
YES, my sister-in-law Cinda gave us the cutest Coop who ever Cooped! And my friends Colleen and Amy had babies this year too.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My dad died in January of 2004.
5. What countries did you visit?
I saw lots of the Chicagoland area of Illinois...that's about it, though. Oh no, wait, Quinn and I went to Unkie Ed's house in June. So I saw some of the Los Angeles area of California.
6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
Paid off bills, a smaller body, and another baby.
7. What dates from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
January 15.
I don't know. This question is hard! Math is hard! Thinking is hard!
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Being a really good mom. Not perfect, but pretty damn good. (I am also stealing answers generously from Athena!) Paying off bills, finally! Going back to work and not having everything around me fall apart.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not getting pregnant. Not getting any healthier.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Ruptured appendix four days after my dad died. An assortment of colds and flus. Nothing else too exciting.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
The paint for Cinda and Henri to paint three of the rooms in our house! THANKS, PEOPLE WHO CAN PAINT! :) :)
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Quinn's, because she can finally jump and have both feet clear the ground.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
A few people.
14. Where did most of your money go?
To my pimp.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Quinn starting at Montessori. Quinn loving Montessori. Going back to teach at my awesome school.
16. What song will always remind you of 2004?
"Autobiography" by Asslee Simpson, fo sho.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier!
b) thinner or fatter? The same.
c) richer or poorer? Richer. Working helps!
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I wish I'd spent more time outside with Quinn. She doesn't need to be a climate-controlled freak like I am...not yet, anyway.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Spending so much time on the Internet. Also, I sat on my ass too much.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
We spent it with our families.
21. Did you fall in love in 2004?
I stayed in love. A better deal in my opinion.
22. How many one-night stands?
Zilch.
23. What was your favorite TV program?
Reno 911, ER, Starting Over (shutup), Nanny 911, Oprah, Wife Swap, and Facts of Life.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't hate anyone. There are some people I think less of, but I'm pretty sure that might be a mutual thing, and it is what it is.
25. What was the best book you read?
A few. "The Big Rumpus" by Ayun Halliday made me insanely happy. I loved "Little Earthquakes" by Jennifer Weiner more than anything she's ever written. And "Fat America" made me stop dead in my tracks.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
No discoveries, I'm stuck in the '70s. I LOVE YOU, STEVIE WONDER!
27. What did you want and get?
A happy day.
28. What did you want and not get?
A box of money.
29. What was your favorite film of this year?
Sideways
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 35 and I taught my two classes, had a nap with Quinn, and we had dinner at my mom's house. It was pretty keen.
31.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I don't know...I don't think I want to think that way.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
Schlumpy stay-at-home-mom. Not a good look at all. Trust me.
33. What kept you sane?
Andrew Ronald Lester. Talking to my friends. Writing. Quinn.
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Abe Vigoda.
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
The election. The issue of gay marriage.
36. Who did you miss?
My dad.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
I don't think I met anyone new! Did I? Except Cooper!
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004.
Planning makes life easier.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Hard times, baby well they come to us all
Sure as the tickin’ of the clock on the wall
Sure as the turnin’ of the night into day
Your smile girl, brings the mornin’ light to my eyes
Lifts away the blues when I rise
I hope that you’re coming to stay
I’m waitin’, waitin’ on a sunny day
Gonna chase the clouds away
Waitin’ on a sunny day
(Bruce Springsteen)
Happy New Year...I'll be back soon with a new design! Whooooo!
