Christmas approacheth

We got our first Christmas card today--whoooooop! It came on my birthday, too! Our tree is up (see Quinn's page for pix), the lights are on our house, and the best part of it is that the accompanying mess is all put away as well. Now I can begin worrying about the Christmas cookie exchange I'm going to Saturday...I am not good at baking. Maybe I'll bring everyone a little plate of Chips Ahoy? Perhaps they won't recognize that they're Chips Ahoy if I get the soft kind?

I'm having a get-together for four old friends this month, too, that I'm a little giddy about. It's good to have such GOOD things going on, compared to last year when everything seemed to be falling apart. Andy and I watched a little bit of the Seinfeld cast on Oprah tonight, and hearing the clips from the show reminded me of hearing it blasting from my dad's room after dinner and late at night whenever we were over. 83 years old and nuts about Seinfeld...that's my dad.

These people piss me off. No, asshats, no one wants your garish Christmas light display ruining their peace and quiet for two months a year. Accept it gracefully and move on. Don't be bitter, don't become media whores, and stop acting like you're six. They may do lots of public service, but they have no class.

Come on! They are just spreading the Christmas spirit. Sounds like you have been bitten by the scrooge

nice idea, yes, but let's face it, who wants 100,000 people driving by their house in one month? if you're that into Christmas lights and you have that kind of money (looks like money to me) then you can figure out another way to "give back to the community." you could start by donating the money it takes to run all those lights to families in need.

Spreading the Christmas spirit by inconveniencing everyone who lives around them? Doesn't sound like the Christmas spirit to me.

That is not the Christmas spirit, it is rampant consumerism at its worst. "See how many lights we can afford?" I'm with Amy and Liz on this one. I'm not terribly religious, but if these people want to keep the spirit of the season, they'd do better to remember whose birth it is we're meant to be honouring and spend that decorating money to help those less fortunate than they are, rather than driving their neighbours insane with tacky decorations

I totally agree, Amy! Living next to that or across the street would be totally aggravating. People parking all over the place, walking all over everyone's lawns, gawking, yelling, taking pics -- if people want to live next to an amusement park, they wouldn't have bought a house in the burbs.
