Vomitous!

Is it any wonder I'm no longer a Catholic? This makes me sick:

Vatican fights gay marriages

And George Bush has always disgusted me. He is so stupid it almost makes me laugh:

Bush wants marriage reserved for heterosexuals

The Church's position is downright sick, and one day they will have to apologize for it. . . The irony of this statement though. . .there are no words for it:

"Allowing children to be adopted by persons living in such (homosexual) unions would actually mean doing violence to these children ... (placing) them in an environment that is not conducive to their full human development."

That actually reads like something from The Onion! If the Catholic Church wants to go there, I bet plenty of sexually abused adults might want to discuss the violence that was done to them at the hands of the church and its leaders.

the prime minister & his probable next-in-line are both practicing catholics, and they seem to be taking this denunciation of their morals well.

what was it that george said yesterday? oh, here it is.

"I think it's very important for our society to respect each individual, to welcome those with good hearts, to be a welcoming country," Bush added. "On the other hand, that does not mean that somebody like me needs to compromise on an issue such as marriage." vomit.

when gay marriage went through here about a month ago, church groups FREAKED. there was a lot of blah blah blah about charter rights of religion. they seem to miss the point that they can (and do) legally refuse to marry *divorced* people, or non-practicing members, let alone gay couples. nobody's forcing anyone to do anything.

of course, it's not comfortable to be gay here, either. i read a letter in last week's macleans that complained about having to clarify the sex of spouse in casual conversation. wow, that's a big crimp on your style!

i'm proud to belong to a church that has had same-sex language in the marriage liturgy since the 80's. and now we can use it to give same-sex couples the same rights as breeders!

Amy, I promise you as soon as I heard what the Vatican had to say, I actually found myself question whether I wanted to get married in the church.

I just can't believe that THIS is the world we live in. I just can't.

At this point, I know I'm Catholic only because my parents are. And I have this feeling that my Mom is only because her parents are. The whole Vatican statement angers me to no end. I have quite a few gay friends who were raised Catholic. I don't know how they do it.

As for Bush, well, he's lost any respect I might have had for him. Fine, I see how religious institutions might question gay marriage. I don't agree, but I can understand at least. This makes no sense. Why not let them marry? Why not give them the benefit that all married people have, make it easier to adopt children, etc. And on the other hand, also make those bonds legally binding. Make it just as hard to divorce, etc. I think it would improve the condition of the family. What does it say to the children of gay parents that their country won't let their parents get married. What is that saying about the validity of their commitment to each other?

Arr. This makes me so mad. So very mad.

I don't know why I surprised was by either of these things. But somehow I was. In that, "Surely this is a joke?" kind of a way. G.W.B. is just ... a buffoon. That is the one word I keep coming back to.
